# deadair

> Sell your dead air. deadair is an open-source terminal ad network: it puts a sponsored line in your AI coding agent's spinner (the "dead air" while it thinks) and pays you a share of the ad revenue for it. Native spinner ads in Codex and Gemini CLI today; sponsored banners for every other agent.

deadair is the open-source counterpart to kickbacks.ai. Where kickbacks monetizes the editor (Claude Code), deadair monetizes the terminal — every other coding agent. Install once, prefix your agent (`deadair codex`, `deadair gemini`, `deadair <anything>`), and keep up to 75% of the ad revenue. MIT licensed, no tracking, uninstalls clean.

## How it works
- Native spinner ads on two surfaces: Codex (exec mode renders deadair's own ad spinner) and Gemini CLI (via Gemini's sanctioned `ui.customWittyPhrases` setting).
- Sponsored banners for every other agent (hermes, openclaw, aider, copilot, ...) via `deadair <agent>` — an entry/exit banner plus session timing.
- Earnings: a flat-rate sponsor pool splits pro-rata by verified ad delivery. The first 1,000 installs keep 75% of their share forever, 50% after. Cash out at $25 via PayPal or gift card. Time with no ad displayed earns nothing.
- Privacy: the CLI reports session seconds only — which agent, how long, and country. Never your prompts, code, file paths, or output. Advertiser text is sanitized (ANSI/control chars stripped, ASCII only, length-capped) before it reaches your terminal.
- Anti-fraud: countable time is capped at 8h/day per install, payouts are human-reviewed, and forfeited balances return to the community pool.
